See more: Two Short-Lived Alice In Borderland Characters Can Return In Season 3 (But Not The Way You Think)
Two Alice in Borderland characters met a tragic fate in the Netflix show’s early moments but season 2’s ending might have set up their season 3 return
Two major characters had a tragically short run in Alice in Borderland season 1, but season 3 might have the perfect opportunity to mark their return. Based on a manga of the same name, Netflix’s Alice in Borderland closely adapts many story elements from its source material in its first two seasons. From the survival games to the character beats, the Netflix live-action remake stays true to the core beats of Haro Aso’s original manga.
Owing to this, Alice in Borderland season 2’s ending arc seems to be in sync with what happens in the manga’s conclusion. Surprisingly, despite running out of source material content, Netflix has renewed Alice in Borderland for season 3. This not only takes the show’s storyline beyond what its source material offers but also allows the live-action series to bring back two short-lived characters from season 1.
After Season 2’s Twist Ending, Karube & Chota Can Return In Alice In Borderland Season 3
Chota and Karube sacrifice their lives to save Arisu in Alice in Borderland season 1’s Seven of Hearts game. This is a shocking development because up to episode 3, Karube and Chota were portrayed as the series’ main characters with Arisu. Karube and Chota’s sudden demise left many viewers theorizing that they would ultimately return in the show’s season 2. However, Alice in Borderland season 2 only featured them in flashbacks, confirming that there was no way they were returning. After season 2’s ending, though, it is hard not to wonder if the two characters might still have a chance
Alice in Borderland season 2’s ending Joker twist and season 3’s confirmation affirm that pretty much everything that happened in the first two seasons cannot be trusted. Although season 2’s ending establishes that the players who died in the games also met a similar fate in the real world, the Joker twist seemingly hints that Arisu and the other surviving players have not made it back to the real world yet. This maintains an air of ambiguity surrounding the real fate of Karube, Chota, and every other character who died during the survival games.
Alice in Borderland Season 3’s Joker Could Exploit Arisu’s Season 1 Grief
Considering how Karube and Chota’s sacrifice was crucial for Arisu’s development as a character, it seems unlikely that Alice in Borderland season 3 will flip their fate. However, since season 2’s ending twist hints that the Joker is a master of trickery with his ability to erase Arisu’s memory and convince him that he has escaped Borderland, he could use Arisu’s grief for Chota and Karube as a ploy to hold him back from escaping to the real world. This way, Alice in Borderland season 3 would not retcon Chota and Karube’s fate but present them more as gambits in the Joker’s masterplan.
