NEVER LEAVE YOUR DOG ALONE AGAIN!!!

Scooch struggled to emerge from his dark confinement into the light without the use of his hind legs.
Scooch was found by animal rescuers under his abandoned home at the end of a gravel road surrounded by other deserted houses. Despite the pitch-black darkness, they could see the brown Pitbull with their spotlights. When Donna approached him, he cowered in a corner and let out a low growl. However, after she tossed a wiener at him, he abruptly stopped growling. Seeing the food, Scooch pulled himself forward using his front legs.
That’s when Donna realized that Scooch wasn’t using his back legs – he was paralyzed.
“He was so famished that he gravitated towards every piece of food I threw at him,” Donna messaged on the Stray Rescue of St. Louis website. “We were concerned about how long this poor dog had been alone and scared here.” After some discussion, they decided that luring him out with food was the safest and least stressful option.
Scooch dragged himself forward, his frail body unable to resist the food. Donna mentioned that as soon as she neared the entrance of the doghouse, she paused, as if contemplating what might happen to her. “He took one look at us and decided to take a chance.”
As soon as she stepped out, Donna noticed how dire Scooch’s condition was. He was extremely thin, with open sores on his back legs from dragging himself on the ground.
They carefully moved him to the car with a blanket, and the dog simply looked up at them, grateful for their help and glad to be in an air-conditioned vehicle. “His grateful eyes showed that he understood that all we wanted to do was help him,” Donna explained.
While Scooch’s rescue is heartbreaking to witness, his bravery and determination are commendable. We hold every hope that this extraordinary dog will recover and know that his rescuers are doing everything they can to provide him with a good life.
