Young Sheldon is saying goodbye after seven seasons, but the Cooper family will be back on TV soon enough!
A spinoff of The Big Bang Theory spinoff has been ordered by CBS, and will focus on Sheldon’s older brother, Georgie (Montana Jordan), his wife, Mandy (Emily Osment), and their young family.
ET recently spoke with Jordan and Osment about the upcoming series, set to be called Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, and the duo admitted that their excitement about the upcoming show helped temper the heartache of saying goodbye to Young Sheldon.
“I’m thankful and blessed that they blessed us with this opportunity,” Jordan said of the spinoff, which will start shooting this summer. “It kind of helps get your mind off of it a little bit.”
“It does, yes,” Osment agreed. “We’re fortunate in that way where we’ve got something sweet to look forward to.”
“It’s my dream to be able to continue this story and do it with this guy?… I’m thrilled,” she added.
Here’s everything we know about the upcoming show:
PLOT
Georgie and Mandy’s love story began in Young Sheldon’s fifth season, where the high schooler’s relationship with a woman 12 years his senior was met with disapproval by both of their families. However, when Mandy got pregnant — eventually giving birth to a little girl they named Constance, after Meemaw — the couple settled down and won everyone over with their sweet, unconventional relationship.
Fans know that the spinoff will focus on the young family’s home life — which Big Bang Theory fans know sadly ends in divorce at some point — however, not many more details have been revealed, even to the stars themselves.
“It’s going to be a surprise for us as well,” Osment told ET. “We don’t know until right before we start shooting.”
While they may not know much just yet, Osment and Jordan said they’re hoping to derive “good luck” from shooting the new show on The Big Bang Theory‘s sound stage and having it air during Young Sheldon‘s timeslot.
“Young Sheldon, it was relatable,” Jordan said. “I hope to see how people can relate to him, because I think that was a success of Young Sheldon.”
CHARACTERS
Osment and Jordan are obviously confirmed to star in the spinoff, and, in May 2024, Osment confirmed to ET that Rachel Bay Jones and Will Sasso will also reprise their Young Sheldon role as Mandy’s parents, Audrey and Jim McAllister, as series regulars on the new show.
The show picking up where Young Sheldon left off also leaves the door open for Georgie’s family members to pop up on their show for cameos or larger roles.
This could include Georgie’s mom, Mary (Zoe Perry), sister Missy (Raegan Revord), Meemaw Connie (Annie Potts) and her boyfriend Dale (Craig T. Nelson), and many more. It’s also possible that Sheldon (Iain Armitage) could make an occasional appearance, however, The Big Bang Theory strongly implies that the brilliant scientist rarely returns home to Texas after moving to California.
When ET spoke with the Young Sheldon cast ahead of the series finale, Potts seemed to think an appearance on the new spinoff was a distinct possibility.
“I might hear from them to come and visit but that is not that’s not written in any kind of stone yet,” she shared.
Then, of course, there’s Georgie and Mandy’s young daughter, nicknamed “CeeCee,” and any other children the couple might have.
PRODUCTION AND PREMIERE DATES
Jordan and Osment told ET that production on Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage was set to begin in July 2024, with the show being ordered for the 2024-25 television series.
The series — which will be shot in front of a studio audience, like The Big Bang Theory — is being produced by Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland, all of whom also produced The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon.
