Garrett Morris from 2 Broke Girls made a blink and you’ll miss-it cameo in 2015’s Ant-Man
Kat Dennings’ starring role as Max Black in the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls brought her immense popularity. Audiences began to realize her comedic chops and Marvel cast her as Darcy in the first Thor film. Her character provided the film with a much-needed levity and relatability to the epic nature of the film.
She reprised her role in many other MCU projects and has become a fan-favorite character. However, she is not the only person from the beloved sitcom to make an appearance in the MCU. Garrett Morris, who played the role of Earl Washington in 2 Broke Girls also made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in one of the MCU films.
Garrett Morris’ Cameo in Ant-Man Was a Full Circle Moment for the Comedian
Garrett Morris played Earl Washington in the Kat Dennings-led sitcom 2 Broke Girls which ran from 2011 to 2017 for six seasons. Washington is the cashier at the Williamsburg Diner where Dennings’ Max Black works as a waitress. Dennings made the transition to the MCU with the fan-favorite character Darcy, starting from Thor to many other future MCU projects.
Many fans would be surprised to know that Morris has a history with the Marvel character Ant-Man. He played the character in an SNL skit in the 70s, and he had a blink-it-and-you-‘ll-miss-it cameo in 2015’s Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd, where he plays the driver of the taxi on which Scott Lang falls after he steals Hank Pym’s suit.
The cameo serves as a full circle moment for him as his cameo serves as a clever easter egg for fans who remember his SNL skit. He joked to CBR saying “You probably went to the men’s room and missed it, but that’s all right”. Morris is clearly happy about his ‘tiny’ contribution through his hilarious bit in the film.
Kat Dennings Rewatched Past Footage of Her as Darcy for WandaVision
Kat Dennings made a return to the MCU after a long gap (since 2013’s Thor: The Dark World) for 2021’s WandaVision, which was the MCU’s first TV project. In an interview with Cinemablend, Dennings talked about reprising the role and her preparations to get back into character after a significant hiatus from the MCU.
She revealed that she rewatched old footage of her as Darcy from past MCU films in order to remember her performance and voice modulation that she did for the role. She also tried to bring a little bit of maturity to her performance as Darcy is now in a higher position in her profession than in her previous appearances. She said,
“That’s such a good question because when you’re acting, there are only a few things you can do. You can’t change your face, but you can change your voice and how you speak. So I’ve tried… I mean, my voice is so annoying and people are definitely quick to point that out and there’s nothing I can do about it.
So I definitely did watch some Darcy stuff just to remember what I was doing with my voice and my register, and try to bring it a little more down, you know, cause now she’s a professional; she’s a doctor!”
Dennings’ most recent appearance as Darcy was in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. It is not known when or if the character will ever return in the MCU’s future.
