Several characters from Young Sheldon, part of The Big Bang Theory universe, would be perfect additions to the upcoming series Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The Young Sheldon cast introduced amazingly funny, new characters from Sheldon Cooper’s past, as well as younger interpretations of figures who appeared in The Big Bang Theory. The likes of Zoe Perry, Annie Potts, and Raegan Revord have all been confirmed to return in the Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’s casting update, reuniting the Cooper family once again.
Mandy and Georgie were last seen in the Young Sheldon finale, which focused on the titular character’s departure to California and an incredibly heartbreaking demise. George Sr.’s death in Young Sheldon was a horrifying event, but it also set up Georgie’s path to become the biggest seller of tires in Texas. Georgie was forced to endure life without his father shortly after he became a parent himself, but plenty of characters from Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory could easily fill a gap for the newlyweds as they try to navigate adult life.
Dr. John Sturgis
Portrayed By Wallace Shawn
Dr. John Sturgis may have started in Young Sheldon as Sheldon’s first true academic associate, but he also became an important figure within the Cooper family throughout the show. Sturgis’ relationship with Connie was a prominent storyline during the show, even with the scientist’s episodes of psychosis often interrupting their love story. Although Connie and Sturgis broke up in season 4, their past endeavors were still notably remembered in the show. Connie’s relationships in Young Sheldon always ended in a civil manner, but her time with Sturgis was some of the funniest moments in the show.
Throughout Young Sheldon , Sturgis underwent fascinating character development that highlighted his relationship with Connie, mental health, and career choices.
Throughout Young Sheldon, Sturgis underwent fascinating character development that highlighted his relationship with Connie, mental health, and career choices. Connie and Sturgis reunited at George Sr.’s funeral in the Young Sheldon finale, proving their friendship was still strong, so it would make sense for the character to return in the upcoming spinoff. Sturgis clearly kept the Coopers close to his heart, regardless of whether he was dating Connie or not, and he’d be a fun addition to the cast of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
2Billy Sparks
Portrayed By Wyatt McClure
Although Billy’s presence in The Big Bang Theory universe was generally related to Sheldon and Missy, he could still be a part of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. If Billy were to appear in the new show, it could allow the writers to expand further on his friendships with the Cooper twins.Sheldon was adamant that Billy was a bully and a tyrant in The Big Bang Theory, but Young Sheldon proved this claim otherwise. Billy had a soft spot for Missy, too, so his connection to the brother-sister duo was wildly different per child.
Wyatt McClure also played Young Tommy Braun in I See You (2019)
Billy was last seen in Young Sheldon season 7 after he and Missy hosted a party at his home but then disappeared. It’s already known that Missy will be a part of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, and Billy’s fate after the party is one question that the new Young Sheldon spinoff could answer, as well as whether anything further happened between him and Missy. Although audiences already knew that Missy was married with kids in The Big Bang Theory, the identity of her husband was never revealed, and perhaps it could be Sparks.
3Paige Swanson
Portrayed By Mckenna Grace
Paige Swanson was a hugely important character in Young Sheldon and served as the female equivalent of the titular character. Unlike Sheldon, Paige was significantly more socially adept, and in later seasons of the show, she formed a solid friendship and bond with Missy. Paige was the perfect blend of the twins – an academic genius like Sheldon with Missy’s rebellious streak. It was already established in The Big Bang Theory that after George Sr.’s death, Georgie took over as head of the Cooper household.
Georgie held his family together when Sheldon went to California, but Paige was notably absent in Young Sheldon season 7. Paige was last seen in season 6 when she was at her most rebellious, so it’d be interesting to see what happened to the other child genius while Sheldon was in college. Paige’s Young Sheldon fate was left unclear, but if she were reunited with Missy, it could be a great storyline to be tackled. Paige could waste her talents or become just as successful as Sheldon, although there could be all manner of paths she could be sent down.
4Pastor Jeff Difford
Portrayed By Matt Hobby
Evangelical Christian Pastor Jeff was a recurring character in Young Sheldon who perfectly encapsulated Sheldon’s religious upbringing in Texas. Pastor Jeff’s marriage issues, his ongoing battles with Sheldon, and his efforts in denying the existence of God and evolution were core plot points in Young Sheldon, so it would be logical for him to return to the franchise. Jeff was also heavily involved in George Sr.’s funeral, both with the planning and the running of the service itself, which made him an integral part of the community and Young Sheldon overall.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will heavily follow the fallout of George Sr.’s death and the titular character’s initial nuptials, so it would be rather illogical if Pastor Jeff didn’t appear. Jeff was prominent in the local community, soit would only make sense that he would support Georgie and Mandy in any relationship struggles they experienced. Missy and Jeff’s connection was left tender in the episode “Memoir,” during her baptism, another storyline that the new show could delve further into, especially with Missy’s rebellious fate.
5Dale Ballard
Portrayed By Craig T. Nelson
Connie’s on-off boyfriend in Young Sheldon, Dale Ballard, was another prominent supporting character during the show. At the end of the show, Dale and Connie were still a couple, although there was no mention of the man in Connie’s The Big Bang Theory cameo. However, considering that Connie was a significant part of Georgie and Mandy’s relationship, it would be logical for Dale to also appear in George & Mandy’s First Marriage. Although Connie and Dale never married, he was still an essential part of the Cooper family in Young Sheldon.
Dale attended the pair’s wedding in Young Sheldon, and he even ended up caring for CeeCee in the season 7 episode “A Proper Wedding and Skeletons in the Closet,” which proved him to be an essential part of the family. Georgie, Missy, and Sheldon’s grandfather passed away before the events of the show, but Dale could serve as a great-grandfather for baby CeeCee in the new Young Sheldon spinoff. Plus, with George Sr. gone, Dale could be an amazing surrogate father figure to Georgie as he tries to navigate fatherhood himself.
6Jana Boggs
Portrayed By Ava Allan
Jana Boggs was Georgie’s girlfriend in Young Sheldon, and she was his most significant relationship before he met Mandy in season 5. Georgie’s life changed a lot after he met Mandy, but there was some interesting foreshadowing about his future during his time with Jana. Jana had a pregnancy scare in the season 4 episode “A Musty Crypt and a Stick to Pee On,” although the test came back negative, thankfully for them. If Jana were to return in George & Mandy’s First Marriage, it’d be a great opportunity for both she and Georgie to reflect on their pasts.
Despite CeeCee’s existence coming under difficult circumstances, Georgie embraced fatherhood beautifully. Georgie becoming a parent was perfect character development for him, and his love for Mandy was unmatched, so crossing paths with Jana again could cause some issues. Jana’s appearance could allow for storylines in which Georgie could look inward and consider whether he would have been a different father to Jana’s child or if he’d have felt about her the same as Mandy.
7Tam Nguyen
Portrayed By Ryan Phuong (Young Sheldon) & Robert Wu (The Big Bang Theory)
Tam Nguyen was Sheldon Cooper’s childhood best friend, and despite their age difference, the pair formed a solid bond after they met in high school in Young Sheldon. Oddly, there were no mentions of Tam in The Big Bang Theory until the season 12 episode “The Tam Turbulence.” As he decided to stay in Texas when Sheldon went to California, the genius harbored a big grudge against Tam. However, Young Sheldon established that Tam was a bigger part of Sheldon’s life than The Big Bang Theory made him out to be.
As Tam stayed in Texas, he could feature in George & Mandy’s First Marriage. Adult Georgie acknowledged he knew Tam to Leonard in the same episode of The Big Bang Theory, which suggested that Sheldon’s friend was still present after Young Sheldon. It was made apparent that he stayed in Texas to get married, and in Young Sheldon season 7, Tam already left high school, so the character could still be expanded upon. Even if Tam weren’t to be a primary cast member, he was still in Medford in those years and would be an interesting addition to the new show.
8Edward & Carl Tucker
Sheldon’s Unseen Uncles
Mary Cooper’s siblings, Edward and Carl, were never seen in Young Sheldon or The Big Bang Theory, although the two were frequently mentioned. Carl was deceased in The Big Bang Theory after he was killed by a badger, which was one of the most ridiculous stories Sheldon ever shared about his time in Texas. It wasn’t clarified whether Edward was alive, although he was referred to as “Stumpy” because he lost a hand in a wood chipper. Young Sheldon established that Mary raised her brothers more so than their mother and that they no longer had any contact with Connie.
Despite having no on-screen presence, George & Mandy’s First Marriage could be an ideal opportunity to delve further into Mary and Connie’s side of the family. Even though Sheldon left for California, it would be odd if Edward and Carl didn’t return to visit Mary and Connie after the Young Sheldon finale or to meet their new grand-niece. If the new show were to introduce two new family members, both already explained to be quirky and reckless, they could be a hilarious and fascinating way to create conflict.
