Thousands of people witnessed this poignant moment in a viral video posted in 2020. It was also shared on other social media platforms besides Douyin.
The incident took place in the northern Chinese province of Shanxi, in the city of Jinzhong. Viewers were moved to tears after witnessing the stranger’s kindness towards the dog.
A woman was walking to the park with her friends when she noticed a charming little dog on the street. She was surprised by the dog’s reaction when she offered him some sausages.
After an unknown woman gave him food, the dog’s eyes filled with tears. The footage showed him standing on his hind legs and waving his front paws as if he were clapping. The woman shared:
“When we offered him food, he started crying, and I tried to put him in our car once, but he refused and jumped back onto the street.”
Another part of the video showed the woman returning to the dog, and he immediately recognized her. He ran towards her, as if he had been waiting for her arrival.

As she gave him sausages, the woman captured the adorable dog wagging his tail. She also thought that the dog refused to enter her car because he mistook her for someone else.
Since it was common for dog catchers to lure puppies into vans, the little pup might have mistaken the woman for one of them. She visited the same location a few days later, but the dog was not there. She continued, saying:
“I looked for him a few times these past few days, but I couldn’t find him.”
She also planned to ask the cleaners whether they had seen the dog nearby. The video quickly became popular on the internet, and many viewers expressed their emotions in the comments section.
“All things have spirit, be kind to them,” a Douyin viewer wrote. Most people admired the woman but felt sorry for the dog. Another viewer commented:
“Dogs are emotional creatures, and if you treat them right, they will reward you greatly.”
Another viewer thought the dog made a mistake by trusting people, and that the dog-catchers had taken him away. “It’s possible he’s no longer there,” she wrote.
Another viewer wrote, “So grateful dog,” and included crying emojis. After watching the sorrowful video, the majority of viewers felt sad.
