UNDERSTANDING THE LAIZHOU HONG, THE CHINESE RED DOG
see more: A horrifying scene appears as a pet dog howls in pain from multiple thorns sticking through its mouth.
Thor was found by his owner in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with hundreds of quills piercing his golden brown fur, covering his muzzle, forehead, nose, ears, and legs.
The owner, Adriano Bertoline, who is currently unemployed, initiated an online campaign for treatment as he was unable to afford the veterinary bill.
Local councillor, Dr. Jose Roberto Apolari, came forward to help, taking Thor to a clinic and covering the costs.
It is believed that Thor, who is three years old, had a confrontation with a porcupine for the second time in a year, resulting in severe injuries.
After discovering Thor with porcupine quills, Bertoline appealed online for assistance in getting him treated.
He posted on Twitter, ‘Good morning, folks… I woke up this morning to find my dog in this state… Is there a clinic or veterinarian who can assist him? I’m afraid I can’t afford it.’
Dr. Apolari responded to the owner’s plea and decided to help.
‘Dr Apolari was an angel in my dog’s life since I couldn’t afford a private veterinarian,’ Adriano said on Facebook. I’m now unemployed, and I have four children at home.’
According to Adriano, the councillor took the dog to the clinic, assisted with the expenditures, and then returned Thor home.
Adriano expressed his gratitude on Facebook, saying, ‘Dr. Apolari was a savior in my dog’s life as I couldn’t afford a private vet. I’m currently jobless and have four kids at home.’
Adriano mentioned that the councillor took Thor to the clinic, helped with the costs, and then brought Thor back home.
According to Thor’s owner, this is the second time in a year that the dog has had a run-in with a porcupine.
In February 2021, a friend of Adriano’s, who was working at a private veterinary clinic at the time, helped the injured dog.
The state of the porcupine after the encounter with the dog was not immediately clear.
